Manta Resort offers 17 stylish and comfortable rooms in various price categories:

Sea Front Villas
The 6 newly built sea front villas are all air-conditioned, spacious and private, with a king size bed and large en-suite bathroom. There is a private plunge pool, and a secluded sun terrace faces a spectacular ocean sunset.

Superior Garden Rooms
The 4 Superior Garden Rooms have views of the sea between the foliage. One pair of rooms has an interconnecting door which makes it an excellent choice for families or larger groups. The Superior Garden Rooms are all air-conditioned with a king size four-poster bed and private makuti thatch covered terrace.

Standard Garden Rooms
The 7 newly built garden rooms are open plan makuti-thatched rooms situated in the gardens. They all feature king size beds with mosquito nets, en-suite open plan bathroom, and a comfortable verandah to relax on. These rooms are not air-conditioned.

Seafront Family Villa
Manta has recently added a Family Villa with 2 double rooms that can sleep up to 6 adults or 4 adults with 2 children. (They simply add an extra single bed into each room.) The villa has a large private plunge pool between the rooms, as well as a private garden with outdoor showers and a private pathway to the beach.

Imagine yourself encapsulated within a turquoise blue bubble, watching shoals of reef fish swimming lazily by – sometimes in three or four layers of different species above the reef floor. This is the heart-stopping experience that awaits you in the underwater room!

The floating structure, Swedish engineered, provides three levels – those above the water clad in local hardwood, and each an experience in itself.

The landing deck, at sea level, has a lounge area and bathroom facility. A ladder leads up to the roof which has a lounging area – for sun worshipping by day – and by night you can lie back in the starlight and wonder at the extraordinary clarity of the stars and planets – all seen without any light pollution. Sleep under the stars to the soft murmuring of the sea.

Then there’s the underwater bedroom – and the magical feeling of lying on a soft double bed surrounded by panes of glass affording almost 360 degrees viewing – watching the shoals of reef fish and exquisite, often rarely seen individuals visiting your windows. Some have taken up residence around the room, which affords them some protection from predation. For instance, three bat fish and a trumpet fish called Nick who is always swimming around and seemingly looking in!

By night, the underwater spotlights beneath each window around the room attract the shyer and more unusual, for instance squid. Octopus and even spanish dancers have been seen attaching themselves to the glass panes, and the reef inhabitants simply can’t resist the attraction, which makes for exciting watching and a truly unique experience!

The Underwater Room is located in the Blue Hole – an anomaly in the coral reef clearly visible from The Manta Resort terrace. Approximately 250 meters off shore it falls to 12 meters deep at high tide and is roughly 50 meters wide in diameter. A circular hole inhabited by a number of large coral heads and abundant marine life. A perfectly protected spot for your floating underwater room.

The Manta Resort team will treat you to a mouth-watering variety of fresh locally caught seafood as well as a variety of beef, chicken and vegetable dishes, some of which have a distinct Pemba touch to them. Most meals are served on the main verandah overlooking the ocean, but the pool deck and beach are also utilised for a change of scenery whenever possible.

The well stocked bar serves drinks all day on the beach and throughout the resort. And you can sample a delicious fruit platter and snacks whenever you feel peckish!

See the tide come and go while sipping away at a “Lemongrass Ginger Sling”, with your feet buried in the warm sand, and a soft breeze cooling your skin. The sound of the breaking waves and a breathtaking sunset over the Pemba Channel makes this one of the most chilled places on the planet!

Manta Resort’s bartenders specialize in a variety of sundowners and cocktails and will spoil you with fruit drinks and cocktails from the freshest handpicked island mango, lime, lemon, pineapple, and coconuts blended with a touch of rum to create uniquely smooth and refreshing drinks.

Diving

The diving around Pemba Island is nothing short of breathtaking. The untouched coral reefs surrounding the entire island make Pemba one of the top dive sites in the world. Pemba is the perfect place to start your diving adventure with one of the healthiest coral reefs in the Indian Ocean, a water temperature averaging at 26ºC and the best visibility of East Africa of 30-40 meters almost every day!

In addition to the excellent natural water conditions, Manta Resort’s Dive Center has everything you need, including a great training pool in two levels, professional dive instructors, and guides to help you with all your diving needs!

Snorkelling

The snorkeling around Pemba is fantastic. The best sites are found at the entrance of the small islands of western Pemba – such as Njao and Fundo. The coral is excellent and the fish life abounds.

You can also snorkel right off the resort in the house “Lagoon” at low tide.

Arranged at the resort to suit your personal interests, they range from walks to local villagers, to guided tours through the ancient Ngezi Forest and searching for the endemic Pemba Flying Fox.
